Hello there.
I’m David Eastman Carey—I make furniture, home decor items, and create many messes along the way. I began life in New England, where I was inspired to get my hands dusty by my grandfather, Eastman Tuttle, a professional carpenter and woodworker.
After studying film at Emerson College in Boston, I ventured to Los Angeles in '96 and immersed myself in the bustling world of filmmaking. Along the way, I discovered a hidden talent for web programming and graphic design, eventually founding my own design and programming company in '05.
Life took an unexpected turn amidst the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. I found myself out of work and at a personal crossroads. In response, I embraced the change and embarked on a journey into the unknown.
That journey, sparked by a friend's simple request for a desk, led to the inception of ‘Eastman Handmade.’
Given my history of crafting furniture for my own home, the opportunity arose when a friend sought my know-how in building an office desk when we all found ourselves working from home. I eagerly jumped at the opportunity and never looked back.
Fast forward, and it's been nearly four years of creating a diverse range of indoor and outdoor furniture for folks across all of Southern California.
Beyond my woodworking endeavors, I cherish my roles as a devoted dad, husband, brother, uncle, son, and practicing Stoic.
Thank you for visiting and I invite you to join me on this journey of new beginnings.
